2024-08-02libstore: move Goal::amDone to Workereldritch horrors
we still mutate goal state to store the results of any given goal run, but now we also have that information in Worker and could in theory do something else with it. we could return a map of goal to goal results, which would also let us better diagnose failures of subgoals (at all). 2024-08-02libstore: return finishedness from Goal methodseldritch horrors
this is the first step towards removing all result-related mutation of Goal state from goal implementations themselves, and into Worker state instead. once that is done we can treat all non-const Goal fields like private state of the goal itself, and make threading of goals possible Change-Id: I69ff7d02a6fd91a65887c6640bfc4f5fb785b45c
2024-07-30libstore: count all substitutions toward the same limiteldritch horrors
limiting CA substitutions was a rather recent addition, and it used a dedicated counter to not interfere with regular substitutions. though this works fine it somewhat contradicts the documentation; job limits should apply to all kinds of substitutions, or be one limit for each. 2024-07-30libstore: always wake up goals on EOFeldritch horrors
all goals do this. it makes no sense to not notify a goal of EOF conditions because this is the universal signal for "child done" Change-Id: Ic3980de312547e616739c57c6248a8e81308b5ee
2024-07-30libstore: simplify substitution handleEOFeldritch horrors
both substitution goals add only this single fd to their wait set. Change-Id: Ibf921f5bb3919106208a0871523b32c8f67fb3d3
2024-07-29libstore: remove Worker::updateProgresseldritch horrors
just update progress every time a goal has returned from work(). there seem to be no performance penalties, and the code is much simpler now. Change-Id: I288ee568b764ee61f40a498d986afda49987cb50
2024-05-10libutil: remove callback.hheldritch horrors
it's no longer used. it really shouldn't have existed this long since it was just a mashup of both std::promise and std::packaged_task in a shape that makes composition unnecessarily difficult. all but a single case of Callback pattern calls were fully synchronous anyway, and even this sole outlier was by far not important enough to justify the extra complexity. 2024-05-09libstore: de-callback-ify CA realisation substitutioneldritch horrors
this is the *only* real user of file transfer download completion callbacks, and a pretty spurious user at that (seeing how nothing here is even turned on by default and indeed a dependency of path substitution which *isn't* async, and concurrency-limited). it'll be a real pain to keep this around, and realistically it would be a lot better to overhaul substitution in general to be *actually* async. that requires a proper async framework footing though, and we don't have anything of the sort, but it's also blocking *that* Change-Id: I1bf671f217c654a67377087607bf608728cbfc83
2024-05-07libstore: limit CA realisation info substitution concurrencyeldritch horrors
this seems to be an oversight, considering that regular substitutions are concurrency-limited. while not particularly necessary at present, once we've removed the `Callback` based interfaces it will be needed. Change-Id: Ide2d08169fcc24752cbd07a1d33fb8482f7034f5
2023-03-08Fix crash/hang with CA derivationsEelco Dolstra
The curl download can outlive DrvOutputSubstitutionGoal (if some other error occurs), so at shutdown setting the promise to an exception will fail because 'this' is no longer valid in the callback. This can manifest itself as a segfault, "corrupted double-linked list" or hang.
2022-04-06Fix empty 'nix copy' error messageEelco Dolstra
This was caused by SubstitutionGoal not setting the errorMsg field in its BuildResult. We now get a more descriptive message than in 2.7.0, e.g. error: path '/nix/store/13mh...' is required, but there is no substituter that can build it instead of the misleading (since there was no build) error: build of '/nix/store/13mh...' failed Fixes #6295.
2022-03-09BuildResult: Use DerivedPathEelco Dolstra
2022-03-08Add Store::buildPathsWithResults()Eelco Dolstra
This function is like buildPaths(), except that it returns a vector of BuildResults containing the exact statuses and output paths of each derivation / substitution. This is convenient for functions like Installable::build(), because they then don't need to do another series of calls to get the outputs of CA derivations. It's also a precondition to impure derivations, where we *can't* query the output of those derivations since they're not stored in the Nix database. Note that PathSubstitutionGoal can now also return a BuildStatus.
2022-02-25Remove std::string alias (for real this time)Eelco Dolstra
Also use std::string_view in a few more places.
